WORKING FOR NMB

Get to know Lynn

At the Columbia Hospital for Women in Washington D.C, Lynn Su was born a first-generation American, born to first-generation immigrants. Originally from Thailand, Lynn’s parents left the economic hardship and challenges of their home country to seek a new life available in the USA, land of the free. From humble beginnings, they found opportunity in the hospitality industry, bartending and waiting tables. At three years old, Lynn moved with her family from Washington, D.C. to Florida.

Lynn grew up traveling back and forth from Florida to Thailand, assisting her father in new business ventures. These travels allowed Lynn to experience the stark contrast in lifestyles between countries. In 1996, Lynn received her bachelor’s from UCLA, making her the first in her family to receive a college degree. Using her education and experience, Lynn took over operating her family’s business in Thailand, where she rooted out corruption. In 2015, Lynn’s father was arrested for speaking out against the Thai Royal Family. These experiences deepened her appreciation for the privilege of being an American citizen and renewed her respect for the law and fundamental rights, especially the First Amendment.

Lynn believes people have a right to freedom, to opportunity, and to the American dream. The entrepreneurial spirit runs strong in her family and she will fight against excessive regulations and taxes for small businesses, such as licensing and hidden fees. She is an advocate for bringing back trade schools and fostering entrepreneurship.

As a dedicated community leader, Lynn has volunteered for various non-profit organizations. Currently, she serves as a board member of Miami-Dade County Asian-American Advisory Board (AAAB), North Miami Beach Redevelopment Advisory Board, Thai-American Association (TAA-South Florida), Census Complete Count, and the Multicultural Committee. Additionally, she serves as Vice President of National Association of Asian American Professionals (NAAAP-Miami).

Lynn looks forward to bringing her love of her community to the state house. She promises to bring leadership to the state legislature, while advocating for the significant improvements our community deserves.

VISION

My vision for our community is built on my experience as a business owner, homeowner, and active resident. I recognize the unique challenges we face and am committed to addressing them with honesty, transparency, and accountability. I firmly believe in enhancing our residents’ quality of life while minimizing the tax burden. I envision a well-staffed, efficiently run municipal government that ensures our community’s beauty, safety and economic vitality without straining our wallets. Every dollar in the city budget will be carefully managed, wasteful spending will be eliminated, and accountability will be paramount – all while our parks are made beautiful, easily accessible, and well-maintained, our streets are kept clean and in top condition, and our residents are safe. The city will prioritize safety and support, fostering a sense of partnership with residents and businesses. My vision centers on “we the people,” where the city and police are seen as resources and not adversaries. Her goal is to transform our local government into one that is truly of the people, by the people, and for the people.

As your next NMB Commissioner, Lynn will work to elevate the quality of life of NMB residents’ by way of the following initiatives:

NMB currently bears one of the highest property tax rates in Miami-Dade County. Lynn is committed to lowering taxes, especially in these challenging economic times. Keeping more of your hard-earned money in your pockets is her priority.

Lynn recognizes the shortage of police officers and the importance of retaining them. She will propose solutions to attract and retain officers, elevating overall public safety in our community.

Lynn will invest in modernizing our waste management infrastructure and fleet of vehicles for more efficient trash collection. She’ll also promote community education for responsible waste disposal practices, making our environment cleaner and sustainable.

Lynn will ensure taxpayer dollars are used efficiently and effectively, preventing overpayment for goods and services and curbing needless programs and projects. Every dollar will be meticulously tracked.

Lynn believes that transparency and accountability are vital for effective local government. She will ensure citizens have access to information, decision-making processes, and financial records, holding officials to a higher standard.

Lynn plans to bring about initiatives to attract more small businesses to NMB, and to educate our existing small businesses about available resources. In addition, the permitting process needs to streamlined to make it easier for them to obtain necessary permits.

Lynn recognizes the importance of trades and financial literacy and plans to work for the establishment of city-run trade schools and financial literacy courses.

Lynn will focus on road and sidewalk resurfacing, stormwater drainage infrastructure installation in flood-prone areas, and ensuring that our sea walls are in working condition.

Lynn will prioritize enhancing the City’s aesthetic appeal by cleaning up streets and public spaces, increasing the city’s tree canopy, and reducing its carbon footprint to maintain a beautiful and sustainable destination for all.

Lynn’s vision and platform reflect her commitment to a vibrant, efficient, and inclusive community that benefits everyone. Together, we can build a better future for our city.
